Abstract
Publicly funded national science agencies create valueas innovation catalysts and through their scientific andresearch missions, they tackle wicked problems. Under-standing how dynamic capabilities and business modelinnovation enable research-intensive organisations toseize the market in the mission is key to translatingbold new science that has impact. We qualitativelyexplore how Australia’s national science agency—theCommonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organi-sation (CSIRO)—has pursued open innovation to sup-portbusinessmodel–dynamiccapabilitiesinanevolvingpublicly funded landscape.
